Finally, the day of days! Today marks a milestone in fMMS development – I consider it ready for Extras. Baring any serious bugs in this release I’ll bump the version number up to 1.0.0 and promote it to -testing within the next few days. :)
Looking back there are some things worth pointing out:
Original brainstorm posted 2009-09-27 (here).
Over 300 thumbs ups/down on the brainstorm (here).
Original wiki-page containing the research of what was needed for MMS on the N900 (here).
Some early IRC-logs from #maemo on FreeNode: http://wiki.maemo.org/Mms_implemention_conversation
My N900 arrived on the 9th of December 2009.
Was receiving SMS Push messages by the 30th of December (yes, took a while, I had exams the week after I got my device!). Link.
Proof of concept posted on 2010-01-02: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=450237&postcount=101. Code still available at https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=1210.
First package with ugly UI 2010-01-04: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=453107&postcount=117
Since then there has been over 11 000 downloads of the deb-package from garage as well as over 160 000 (!) downloads from -devel.
All of this would not have been possible without the great community AND the great support from Nokia.
Thank you all for testing, giving feedback and taking your time to read this.

The MAemo/Meego community owes you a very big thank you! Great to see open source working.
Fantastic work – all the effort you’ve put in to this is really appreciated :)
Maybe the wrong place to mention it, but with mymenu it is placed in the “System” category – shouldn’t that be “Network” or something?
Great works !
In french (sorry) : Bravo pour ce boulot énorme, qui nous permet d’avoir les mms sur notre téléphone. Merci à vous !
Great! As I already said earlier I am amazed at the vigour you continue to put into this effort, even though it may have appeared difficult at times :)
Congratulations on a job well done! I am one of the many enthusiastic users of fMMS and have been using it since .3 something. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.
Excellent piece of work..easy to configure..simple to use. N900’s first killer application?!
Much apprciated for all time and effort spent releasing fMMS
Thank you
I probably wouldn’t have purchased an N900 without fMMS. Thanks for your great work!
Nice work, much appreciated :)
You forgot one of the most important things that made fMMS possible, YOU! Thank you for committing the time and energy to getting this whole set of things to where it is today!
So is this available for download now or in the next few days? Do you still need the 2 applications for it to work or is it not as long-winded now?
You have written probaly the best application for the N900. Thank you. I can only imagine the hard work and the time and effort you have put in over the last five months. I hope Nokia implement and pay you for fMMS.
You have done a great work and it has been realy fun to follow your developent. what is your next projekt? :)
Excellent work. Thankyou very much :)
Thank you!
how can i download it??
thanks any way
Well done, and thank you!
thank you!
I love the product but until we can send larger images I see little value. If that has been corrected please let me know and I’ll re-install it right away!
thank you
thanks, without your app my girlfriend would never of been able to send me hot pictures if fine ass self
Lloyd: In these latest versions you can choose between Small, Medium, Large and Original picture size.
I haven’t tried Original size yet but Large works fine on Elisa network here in Finland atleast.
The old pixelsize setting is gone.
Thanks for a GREAT piece of software frals!
I love this thing – but is there a way to select multiple recipients? I tried to send same message to many persons yesterday and could only select one at a time. I worked around this by using “forward”, but still..
Hi, I have a very big problem with this app.
The faulty mms’s is imposible to delete.
I have to open every mms to delete them, but since they are faulty I can not open them ande hence not delete them either.
I am talking about these mms’s:

How do I delete them, please tell me a way if any?
I really need to find a way.
*Holding my breath while waiting for an answer*
finally got around to installing!! fantastic bit of kit. havoc mode works great. any idea when multiple recipients and files will be available? or am i missing something?
Thanks everyone for the kind and uplifting words (and donations those of you who did!). :)
@gl: Thanks for the heads up – I’ll see why that happens.
@Ryan: I’m ironing out what I hope is the last bug, then I’ll promote to -testing and 10 days later I hope it lands in Extras and shows up on everyones device ;)
@Zarr: Currently no – it’s on the TODO list but won’t be added before 1.0 I’m afraid.
@Daniel: Tap-and-hold on the message in the mainview brings up a menu from where you can delete it. If this doesn’t work please drop me an email at fmms@frals.se and I’ll see what we can do :)
@steve: Can’t give any timeline, but it’s something I want to add in the future ;)
Thank you so very much.
It worked, nice work.
:D :D :D
thanks man! really looking forward to this app!
